Amino Acids and BodyBuilding Part 2

Foods rich in amino acids

For the bodybuilder, it is essential to know which foods contain amino acids. These protein containing foods include:

Lean meat, poultry
Whey protein supplements
Eggs
Milk, (which contains casein)
Soy
Rice
Beans

Once these foods are eaten, the body breaks up the food into different molecules including amino acids. The amino acids are then recycled for synthesis of more protein and generate energy

Supplements

For the majority of individuals there is no need to take health supplement of amino acids because one can derive all amino acids from foods. However, for an individual who is exercising or trying to build the body, one may either eat more protein foods or buy amino acid supplements. Protein supplements are also essential in individuals who are ill, hospitalized, have cancer or have suffered an serious injury.

Which amino acid for the bodybuilder?

Well, all amino acids are important in the body building process. However, there is some data which shows that glutamine can become rapidly depleted during exercise. This is one supplement which is highly recommended. Glutamine is available as a fine powder which is soluble in water or any type of beverage. While there are reports that glutamine supplements can build energy levels, there is little proof that glutamine alone can build the body.
